While apple release the iphone update 2.2, you may want to hold on until you see there are no bugs. For those of you, like me, that update to the new version but would like to go back to 2.1. I put together a step by step video so you can do this, check the video below and let me know if it worked for you.
Once you are done it will bring the iphone back to version 2.1. You can use the latest version of itunes to do this. You will also need the 2.1 Firmware which is found below, and QuickPWN 2.1 so you can activate the 2.1 version once completed.
First download the 2.1 firmware by CLICKING HERE . Save it to a place you will remember then open iTunes, connect your iphone 3G and while pressing the shift key click on the restore button in iTunes. This will bring up a window that will let you look for the firmware you downloaded. You will also need QuickPWN which you can download by CLICKING HERE if the link fails try this one CLICKING HERE
This tutorial video below is for the iPhone 3G, but it will work for the 1st generation iPhone if you use the firmware below.
If you have the First generation iphone (The Old one) then CLICK HERE for the firmware that works on that model. You might also need the bootloaders 3.9 and 4.6 you can download them by clicking on the following links. 3.9 Bootloader 4.6 Bootloader

i’ve been up to the second step, where it says error 1013, but it doesn’t say that it’s still in the recovery mode, even though the screen shows that it still does, and in your video, it’s shown that the iphone still seen on the itunes after you pressed ok for the error 1013 and that its still in the recovery mode, but mine doesn’t.
instead, it says that it detects the iphone, but somehow it couldn’t be displayed on the itunes, so i need to unplug then plug the usb cable again.
however the downgrade process doesn’t work though.. i checked the settings and it still uses the 2.2 version.. 🙁
does it have anything to do with the chip i used for unlocking the iphone?

Downgrading of baseband (02.28.00) for firmware (2.2) is a big big risk …
DO NOT USE ziphone .. Mite destroy the bootloader for 3G i-phone…
The best solution is to use 2.2 turbo sim..

but i recvd my iphone 3g 2 days back and i did the same thing on it and bought turbo sim…not my iphone 3g is useless no network. after 5 days i was about to gift it to my brother.. ;( bad luck

hey guy there is rumor that when u upgrade iphone 3G directly from iTune v 2.2 there is no chance to unlock in the future so I did that please help me find the solution how I can unlock it or go back to the original basband or condition.

I Have the Iphone 2G on firmware 2.1… Its unlocked, jailbreak and running.
The thing is that i need to restored in itunes and jailbreack again but it tells me that if i restored its gonna also upgraded to version 2.2.
i dont want that cause i might not be able to unlocked again. is there any way to void the upgrade.? Do you think the totorial will let me downgrade and unlocked again.

I am using a 3G iphone and i’m trying to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1. I’ve done everything up until the whole QUICKPWN thing..
My phone just stays in the DFU mode and won’t do anything. If I disconnect it and reconnect, my itunes will say restore & press restore if you want the latest updates & etc.. Thing is, im scared that if I press that, it’ll just end up being 2.2 again.. I’m stuck!

Hey,, thanks for sharing. I downloaded the tools u mentioned. The problem is when I select the firmware to restore a msg shows up and says “An unknown error occurred (1403).” So, can you help me with that? I’d really appreciate it.
I tried this method for my iPod 2nd Generation but instead od the 1013 Error, I get the 1 Error. I know this is only for the iPhone but can you or anyone else help me downgrade my iPod to the 2.1 version?

I accidently upgraded to 2.2firmware from 2.1 with an unlocked phone and the thing kept saying no service. So, I have tried to restore all setting and to no avail. After looking for hours and houts I have cam across alot of website taking you through the downloading sequence. This is great but my phone just keep saying insert sim installation, wrong sim!! ayway I have rebooted the phojne and it eventually picks up the Iphone then I click restore holding the shift key down but it wont allow me to complete the process I keep getting an error 1403 or error 5. I really dont knwo what to do, can you please help!!

I bought a legal unlocked phone last 2 months ago in Italy as I travel a great deal and have phone accounts in US, UK, Germany. All was well and good the last month swapping SIMS as I traveled. Then last week when I landed in US I was prompted to update to 2.2. I did. Now I can only receive calls, send and receive txts, and use 3G internet. No outgoing calls.
I am trying to downgrade back to 2.1, BUT when I hit the shift and Restore key, I am not getting an option as to which firmware. It simply asks if I am sure I want to restore, and when I do it is 2.2 again. HELP! Am I doing something wrong with iphone1,2_2.15F136_Restore.ipsw?

I was told that on 31.12 iphone dev team will give access to new software for 2.1
after that no turbo sim card will be needed
